Medillen Gibitngil Island

Another weekend has come and we ended up going to Cebu North. With my buddy Yenyen and with Razzel we have decided to see for ourselves the latest tourists destination in Medillen “Gibitngil Island”. Thank God again and again for having a work that allows us to travel on weekends.

We departed early on a Saturday morning, and travelled via Ceres bus from Cebu North Terminal. It was a 3hr bus travel stopping over at Kawit, Medillen before lunchtime.

We proceeded immediately to the sea port and had options from fisherman folks for boat rates going to Gibitngil Island which is a 30minute boat ride from the main town. We hired 1 with an agreement to pick us up early morning the following day.

This was one risky boat ride without any life jackets with us. And just few meters away from the port we had to stop for awhile since the boat had engine problems worst is that the boat “pendulum” got dismounted so the boatman had to swim deep in to the water to look for it.

What an experience to recall, we were still smiling but we can’t hide the fact that we were nervous. As soon as engines checked and fixed, we navigated and preceded.

It’s a peaceful ride noticing how they have preserved the island I must say it’s a protected marine sanctuary seeing fishes flying so lively in the waters.

As we arrived in the Gibitngil Island we noticed tourist have flocked earlier than we did. Group of friends and families mostly.  They now got mini benches situated on the rocks, for each guest at an affordable rate.

Though they don’t have rooms yet and food isn’t that accessible but it was still a fun day to relax and unwind in this lovely island. With this set-up we decided to go back to the town proper calling in our boat man to pick us up before the night ends.

For an overnight stay make sure to bring enough food, tents, and it will be fun and safer if it should be in groups. YES, you are right we are unprepared for this set-up c",)

We spent our Saturday night in Coco Palms Beach resort which was just few meters from the port area. This is a family owned resort well managed and maintained.

They entertain tourist in groups who just wanted to stay overnight by the beach and install their own sleeping tents. The caretaker has been very accommodating to us making it sure we are able to rest comfortably in our rooms and checking on from time to time if there’s anything we need.

It’s was pleasurable weekend to remember, once upon a summer in Cebu North.
