HEART RUN
I wanted to emphasize the
page title - the story behind how I ended up challenging myself about
RUNNING.
By the year 2012, I was still
working with a manufacturing company being under the sales department for over
a year. Ever since I started working with them my routine has just been work,
my apartment, and if someone invites me to lunch or dine out or if I needed to
do my groceries then I will spend a short time visiting some malls. In that
same year as an annual routine, we had undergone a physical examination and it
shocked me by surprised my BP has already raised to 135/80 (Aug 2012). The nurse in charge did it for 2 more
checkings and undeniably it has recorded the same result.
Never did I realize that my
frequent complaints about a headache for the past months were already signs of
having a high blood pressure lasting for almost 2 months. At the same time, results showed that I’m anemic. I must admit I am guilty about it that since
university days, I don’t even take naps and I’ve adopted a poor sleeping habit the
least 4hrs and the most 6hrs in a day. The
stress at work, lack of sleep, tension with some people, and guilt about living
a sedentary life along with the lack of emphasis on nutrition has changed me
big time.
To that detailed story, I
have ventured into the world of running. My cousins who live in SG we’re
already passionate into it, and then my sister has convinced me to change my
lifestyle and give running a try sending her old rubber shoes for me. I started with 3-5km distances joining fun
runs in the city. As we kept on joining I must confess I get so challenged spotting
so many women running for longer distances and what’s even encouraging is to
run slower than the older ones (I am referring specifically to the youthful
senior citizens) seeing them doing their runs so comfortably and enjoyably.
From then on I told myself I should be able to run more than 5 kilometers. I’m just so grateful that a good friend of mine
who happens to be my frequent travel buddy (“YENYEN) has accompanied and helped
me in this journey to achieve what I needed to attain, the perseverance to
reach our goals, challenging ourselves and improve and level up into our
running stint.
As of this writing, I am
proud to say that I have run (2) HALF MARY for this year 2014. For me, it is a big achievement being able to
sustain a 21-kilometer distance. Though I still have to develop on my speed,
learn more techniques to lessen injury but the desire for improvement is
continuous and never-ending.
