David and Sochea in Siem Reap

Chats and Talk.

Hard work and Diligence

Allow me to speak about these two young men we have met in our guest house in Siem Reap.

For 5 days and 4 nights, we dine everyday in our bed and breakfast house. We get to be served delicious food coupled with cheerful staffs, and then we met David and Sochea.

Having the chance to talk to these Khmer gentlemen has humbled my heart, as they share their own life tale.

David is a server from the guesthouse who is joggling both his studies in the university and working part time, with great emphasis on letting go of social activities. Balancing his time and money, he is able to finance himself with everything from food, allowances and all day to day expenses. His life is all about school and Bou Savvy, most noted of all sacrificing the distance living far away from his family and seeing them even once a year. I also have to commend that David speaks English and Japanese, making him that versatile to serve all guests.

Sochea is a fun loving guy in the guesthouse; he talks more and works hard when you see him around. He is one popular server and any guest from bou savy surely had their own chat encounters. He has finished his studies and is always cheerful with much positive outlook in life. He speaks fluently in English too making him more confident to communicate to anyone. He has shared stories about his country and humbly told us that the Philippines is more progressive than Cambodia.

Admittedly I always have a big heart for people who share stories of difficulties and challenges in life, most especially hearing how they cope up with this from day to day facing the reality.

Any human being faces trials all along in which we have different ways of resolving. More often we either run away or let it pass. Then it makes us shift our attention to the actuality in life.

For me the bravest men are the ones who share all these trials and weakness in all courage and optimism. These are the people who always see the light in the midst of all problems.

We are all guilty of these circumstances.

And this reminds me to always treasure my life, and make the most out of it.

Just thinking of them tells me to work harder and struggle more, if they have done it, then why shouldn’t I be able to do it.
